find my wishlist pieces
2025 was a good year for wishlist pieces!
i’m on a low buy right now except for wishlist pieces, and would like to stay that way. i think in 2025 i wanted to try a lot of different styles, and tried to figure out what things suited me, and what didn’t. i've tried so many things that i can get this down to the detail - for example, i hate the way (most) collar-less ops look. or i love the criss cross lace on old meta. atelier boz, as much as i love their designs, doesn't suit me that well. old school meta, though, i look and feel great in.i don't feel super comfortable in very sweet styles. while i love shiro, white washes me out, and cream / ivory suits me more. florals are the best. stuff like that really helps me make better decisions about what i buy.
my main priorities are finding more floral main pieces, getting a good, basic black skirt, building my jane marple jewelry collection, finding some innocent world rolled rose headdresses, and finding victorian maiden blouses/cutsews, because old victorian maiden is simply the best ₊˚࿔*:・୧...i am especially keen on finding more meta gobelin, maybe the corset op in the brown gobelin colorway, or the camisole / skirt set. i missed it twice last year and am still hung up on it. i love the brown colorway most, but blue and pink are equally charming. a girl can dream!
various wishlist items...can you tell i like florals...
hopefully, i’d like to trade some things for some wishlist pieces as well, if i can manage it. i got a lot of good trades in 2025 and hope to continue doing that because it’s a mutual way of building a wardrobe!
learn to sew, finally
i will be taking a continuing education class at a local design school and finally :) learn how to sew! i'd love to make some accessories, and hopefully down the line some custom pieces for myself...with the ridiculous prices of old shcool egl these days, might as well recreate them yourself, right?
finish closet cleaning
pretty self explanatory. usually i try to go for trades before i sell, but i want my clothes to go to places where they will be appreciated. this goes for the remainder of my wardrobe, as well.
more experimentation
i think many old school egl enthusiasts enjoy the spirit of experimentation and play that came with the olden days of the fashion. i hope to lean more into this sense of "play" and go for more unexpected pairings or color moments within my coordinates. flipping through old magazines always helps me think of a piece differently.
continue building a cohesive wardrobe
i’ve limited myself to a pretty limited color palette (black, ivory/offwhite, brown, wine, warm pinks) and at the end of last year, started selling stuff that i wasn’t reaching for or didn’t fit the vibe of my wardrobe. going for consistency of motifs too - i feel like i've really squared down what i enjoy and feel most beautiful in. florals, long cuts, princess-like details -- they spark so much joy.
a jane marple enthusiast, from the happy victims photo series by Kyoichi Tsuzuki. i would do most anything for that doctor bag!
having a cohesive wardrobe makes it much easier to coord, and i’d like to keep it that way.
do more comm stuff
i am moving to the UK near the end of the year and would like to get in some quality comm time before i leave. unfortunately, I live in a very car-centric part of the country, so my biggest hurdle is usually getting to meets. for this reason, i want to prioritize local meets and before i move, try to plan something myself!
finish neocities redesign and put my scans and wardrobe documentation
i'm at a good place with this project as this site is (mostly) designed. wardrobe documentation will be a bit harder because my closet is a bit scattered at the moment, but hopefuly, i will get it done eventually. i also want to finish uploading my backlog of scans.
have social media presence
i feel like most people’s new years resolutions, at least in my circle, people have been saying they need less social media time. i totally get this, as these platforms are very destructive and are also full of generative ai slop nonsense, which further ruins the experience. but at the same time, lolita instagram is full of great inspiration and i’d like to take more time to post documentation of my coords.
wear more casual and comfy coords
i really value comfort, and want more wear out my wardrobe. i think what i love most is very princessy, over the top details — lot’s of lace, princess sleeves, and details abound. i don’t always think it’s the best for everyday wear, and can get overwhelming. lolita can be a bit overwhelming to wear at times with constricting cuts and too-tight materials. i love my old baby ops and victorian maiden bustiers for instance, but they can be a lot to wear for extended periods of time. even litle things like removing detchable sleeves or opting for lighter tops, and wearing flat shoes can make a difference.
similarly, i *kind of* want to try to wear lolita to work, even if it's very casual or doesn't come off as lolita. my workplace is more formal, but i don't actually interface with very many people on any given day, so i might as well dress how i like. jane marple could be good for this. i'm in the office four days a week, and in general, would like to get more wear out of my wardrobe.
this look from fruits is a perennial favorite. i love the feather necklace, and the inky, deep velvets found on old jm pieces, especially. via lolitahistory.com
part of my desire for this is to make lolita more of a "lived" fashion. i guess the phrase that we use in the western comm is "lifestyler" - but that doesn't resonate with me as much as lived. clothes should feel like things that you feel happy to wear and comfortable being in...i like being very active, and i walk and bike nearly every where, so being able to move is important.
on a tangential note, i really fell in love with MILK last year and hope to find certain prints and pieces. MILK cutsews and tanks are especially charming.
